Twenty Millersville University varsity football players are being treated for a drug-resistant bacterial staph infection, college officials said Wednesday.

Pat Weidinger, the university’s director of safety and environmental health, said the students likely contracted the infection, known as MRSA, early this month.

"We don’t know how the students got it. Someone could have picked it up somewhere and brought it to school," Weidinger said. "It started with one or two students and spread from there. But they are doing well."
