Design of hospitals must be part of MRSA Strategy

1). Isolation – this should drive the provision of single en-suite rooms in all of our acute Hospitals, this would ensure that the cross infection routes endemic in multi-bed units with shared sanitary accomodation would disappear forever, (and as a bonus the continuing scandal of mixed sex wards would at last be eliminated).
2)Environmental control, all “high risk” areas, (operating theatres, high dependency suites etc.) are routinely provided with complex air management systems so as to reduce the possibility of infections, why then do we not provide at least some standard of quality environment in the areas where the patients are expected to recover?
