A drug resistant bacteria is spreading more and more in our area. Now, a South Jersey student is in the hospital.
Officials are concerned because that student and at least 6 others have MRSA -or methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus.
MRSA has been around for more than 30 years but doctors say it used to be confined to nursing homes and hospitals.
Now it’s been confirmed in six students at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees, N.J., and at least one at Haddonfield Memorial High .
The football players from Haddonfield are the latest to be hit by the bacteria.
Officials confirm one Haddonfield student had to be hospitalized to receive IV treatment for the MRSA bacteria.
Results are still out on six other students.
The school is telling parents they are disinfecting the locker rooms daily.
