After controlling for other factors, methicillin resistance remained a significant risk factor for 14-day mortality for patients with MRSA BSI, Dr. Cunney stressed, although age, length of stay, and other factors become more significant for in-hospital and 30-day mortality.
By way of potential explanation, he said, "I suspect that what is happening is that once you go beyond the 14-day mortality, the other risk factors — such as underlying illness, age and so forth — become more important, and you would expect that if methicillin resistance has an impact on mortality, that impact would occur early, because it would be related to treatment options."
This study thus indicates the need for early identification of methicillin resistance in this population, and highlights the way in which such enhanced surveillance analyses can be used to determine the most appropriate measures for the control of MRSA infections, he concluded.

Hi, I don’t know where to go from here. I had shoulder surgery in November, then 2 sores in nose, then ambulance taking me to Memorial Hospital in South Bend Indiana, USA.
Took them 5 days to culture. They did not put me in isolationuntil the 4th day! Then the nurses tried to not have to ’suit up’they did noy come in and the hospital released me. On IV drip for 4 or 5 days. I fell in the shower during my hospital stay, I retorn the shoulder worse then before. Back to Hospital….2 weeks later, lesions appeared on stomack under arm. They took a culture early last week and ‘here I am again’. The same antibiotics in pill form that I was sent homw with, I have kicked a reaction too. I was allergic to sulfer and penicillin in the first place. They say the only antibiotic that would help is about 4,000.00. My husband has insurance through work. We have to pay it all, then wait to be reinbursed, LESS 20%. They can’t even tell me which MRSA I have. I have tried to get help from Social Services, AARP, insurance companies and everyone else. I think I may die. I have diebetes, fibromylagia, degenerative bone, astma, artifical knee, 3 shoulder surgeries and the list goes on. My Primary physican says she will check with CDC cause she doen’t even know which one it is….and it goes on, for now. We are on the verge of losing our home. My husband is a hard worker but this is just so unsettling. I wonder if anyone is listening??
