The Mountain Home School District is taking measures to control a staph infection that has affected 12 students and two coaches.

Athletic Director Janet Wood said the bacteria, known as Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), is believed to be in the weight rooms of Pinkston Middle School, Mountain Home Junior High School and Mountain Home High School. Wood said athletic trainer Mark Haynes noticed the outbreak before spring break last week. She said he recognized the signs of staph, and school officials began immediately working to control the spread of the bacteria.

"We are taking steps to contain it," she said.
