Link: MRSA victim facing more trauma.
A vet who contracted MRSA three years ago during surgery on her ankle, is now facing the prospect of having her leg amputated.
Fiona Care, from Manorowen, Goodwick, caught the devastating bug after she broke her ankle trying to catch a sheep.
She had surgery on the joint at Withybush Hospital, which is when she believes she contracted MRSA.
"I don’t actually have MRSA anymore. The problems I am having are all as a result of the damage it has done to my leg.
"The bug ate away at my flesh and bone, leaving me with an open wound that will not heal, despite two skin grafts.
"Sometimes I feel very angry that this could have happened to me. A prosthetic limb is the only way forward for me now."
