More than a dozen students at Tacoma’s Washington-Hoyt Elementary School stayed home today amid rumors of additional cases of an antibiotic-resistant bacteria, but officials said there no confirmed new cases. The school district planned to scrub down the entire building tonight as a precautionary measure, and to help ease concerns, schools spokeswoman Leanna Albrecht said.

The mother of one boy told The News Tribune that her son was seen by a doctor, but he did not have the condition known as MRSA, or methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. “We just got the message,” the woman said this afternoon.

Last week, school officials sent a letter home with students after one student developed the skin infection. The wound was properly bandaged and wasn’t oozing or bleeding, they said.
