The competition is a Web-based science, math and technology contest for students in grades six through nine, aimed at enabling students to recognize the real-life applications of science, math and technology. More than 2,000 teams submitted entries. The team was honored for its investigation into the bacteria and germs on weightlifting equipment. Their research and testing showed them that several diseases and infections could be acquired from weightlifting equipment, including MRSA and influenza.
