Patients should take MRSA action

in MRSA Screening

Does the infection rate of your surgeon make a difference in your outcome? You bet! As I have said before, don’t be afraid to ask your surgeon well before your planned surgery of his infection rate. All surgeons know theirs. It might make a difference between life and death.  In addition to the Chlorhexidine soap showers I previously recommended, ask your surgeon to have you tested for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at least a week before you come into the hospital. The test is really simple and if you test positive, extra precautions can be taken to protect you from infection.  In addition, if you do acquire an MRSA infection while in the hospital, a negative test will go a long way to show you acquired the infection in the hospital and it was not something you already had.
