HOSPITAL chiefs have announced that their fight against the superbugs is on track.
Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust, in Huntingdon, reported one MRSA (bacteraemia) case for the last quarter. This brings the trust’s total for the year to 15 cases – one above its target.
Director of nursing, midwifery and operations at the trust Liz Ponting said: “Although we missed our target by one, we are encouraged by the decrease of more than 50 per cent compared with last year, when we had 33 cases.
“We feel this is in some way due to the change in policy to increase the level of screening and how we treat our patients.”
