THE DRIVE to stop patients picking up dangerous bugs in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, is to step up a gear, writes Marjory Inglis, health reporter.

Ninewells is to develop three “model” wards aimed at slashing the number of patients testing positive for MRSA and other healthcare -acquired infections.

Everything from the design of furniture to the cleaning of equipment and simple hand washing is to be looked at in a bid to halt the spread of infection.

Specialist advice from one of the region’s top micro-biologists will inform bosses about the measures they have to put in place.
