Link: Midland Daily News – Winger: Shield protects athletes from MRSA.

The treatment has been used by a company called CSG Coatings on things such as paint for field markings and logos, including those at Ford Field for Super Bowl XL in 2006.

"CSG contacted us and said it needed to reduce bacteria and fungus causing staining and infectious diseases," White said.

Some prominent places treated with the Aegis Microbe Shield are the Miami Heat’s locker room and the field hockey and football practice field at Virginia Tech.

Locally, the Midland Community Tennis Center has been completely treated with Aegis Microbe Shield. It has also been used at the MidMichigan Medical Center and the Midland Community Center. To see if a facility you use has been treated, look for the words "Aegis Microbe Shield."

During the Dow Corning Tennis Classic in February, clothing protected by the shield could be found almost everywhere, including the socks worn by competitors.

By using it, competitors are able to reduce the risk of picking up rashes or the dreaded MRSA which can be fatal.
