Link: Skin Disease Concern.
An infectious skin disease is spreading through Siouxland.
If you have ever had a skin infection like a boil or a abscess there’s a chance you have come into contact with a disease called MRSA. MRSA, it’s short for Methicillan-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.
You may have never heard of it and there’s a chance your doctor hasn’t heard of it either.
Dr. Bertha Ayi, Mercy Medical Center, explained, "If anybody walks into an emergency room with a skin or soft tissue infection about 6 out of 10 times it’s probably MRSA."
Dr. Bertha Ayi runs the infectious disease clinic at Mercy Medical Center. She says that most of the time patients with MRSA think its a spider bite.
