Inside linebacker Pat Maynor is the third Stanford player to miss time this season because of a staph infection.

Maynor, who has started four games this season, has a leg infection that has caused swelling, making it difficult to bend his leg at the knee. Maynor, who was briefly hospitalized, will be unavailable for Saturday’s game against
USC.

Maynor joins guard Jon Cochran and running back Anthony Kimble as players who have been stricken and hospitalized with the virulent infection. Cochran missed two starts with an infection on his face and Kimble was hospitalized and missed the first week of training camp in August with a lower leg infection.

"We are working at it, trying to locate what’s the problem," Stanford coach Walt Harris said. "This is a new adventure for us as a college team, as well as a bunch of others. I don’t know how much it’s hit other people, but it’s hit us, and it’s pretty devastating."
